due to a wierd noise coming from the engine bay. Sounded like a "whoosh" sound from about 2500 to 3800 or so rpms. And everytime I let off the gas really quick after boost I hear this very faint "whoosh" like air rushing through something (kind of like when DV's go bad and you get that "blow-off" sound but much deeper).
Anyway, TBB looked good, no cracks at all, so I put it back in. Is there anything else I can check? Any hose that might be loose? If so, which hose and where would it be located? BTW its a stock 2001.5, just came back from 60k service this week, turbo's still sound normal and performance doesn't seem to be affected. TIA.

Um...

If you still have OE DV's a cheap swap to 710N's is in order after a few years of service

Yeah sorry I didn't mention, I have Hyperboost DV's in b/c stock ones blew a few months back...
Is it possible that there's another problem with these DV's? They're pretty solid, I don't see them being the cause of the problem. But you never know.

Yea, well... the answer, as stated before, is to pressure test if you're unsure...
You need a medium capacity compressor and to make a kit from home depot parts if you haven't already.
Don't rule the DV's out, they can leak.

I had a sound like that when a check valve literally snap in half
I didn't notice the performance loss until I was in another S4 that was working properly... Needless to say, the car felt a million times better when I replaced the valve.
It was located under the upper right engine cover near the PCV branch off the Y-pipe. It was totally obvious when I did a pressure test with the AWE intake pressure tester.
Other things to look for might be intercooler hoses that are loose or leaking like other people have said. Definitely spend the $15 or so on a pressure tester. It'll probably save you a lot of time, if not now then later.
