I hope the S4 meets my expectations...
I'm looking for a used S4 currently - maybe spend $22K. Anyway, there are not any other cars I'm interested in at this price point.
I'm basically in the market for 4 door sports car as a balance between appeasing my wife (4 doors) and my desires (performance). Anyway, I've never even driven one.
I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself...but for the last several years, I told myself my next car is going to have little more *****. An M3 (E46) would have been my dream car.
I've been driving an '95 Integra for the last ten years. Perhaps I'm just looking for some reassurance...

Bought mine and had it shipped from Mass-Florida..never drove it or any S4 before I got it..
Coming from an integra I don't think you will be dissapointed in anything but the handling maybe, and that can be fixed. BTW never regretted the purchase except maybe when I see Meems E46 (another forum member).

The S4 is a very heavy car, and is built like a tank <m>
...never drove an Integra, but every Japanese car I've ever driven feels very "thin" by comparison. I personally love the steering feel and solidity of the Audi.
Once you chip it, you will not believe the low-end grunt of these cars. I don't think you will be disappointed.
My S4 is about my 35 th car and my all-time favorite.

I had an Integra for over 6 years before I got the S4. I really liked the Integra. In fact,
the only reason why I got the S4 was that I was sick and tired of my Integra being broken into (I live in Silicon Valley, and Hondas are especially popular around here). After 175k+ miles, I traded it in for the S4. The Integra Type R is IMHO one of the best handling FWD cars in the world bar none- the S4 will never be like an Integra in handling (it's a pig), BUT it is solid, mature, and refined. Definitely a step up. Going Stage 2 (ECU modification and cat-back exhaust) like I did for under $1500 total (which included labor BTW) yields a huge power increase (around 320 HP/350 lb/ft TQ at crank).
If you're concerned about reliability, be aware that some S4's are "problematic". This is no Honda. Some S4's have exhibited no problems at all. Get a 2001.5 or newer to be safe. If you want a track car- save your money for the M3, Lotuse Elise, or Honda S2000. If you want a well-rounded daily driver w/ fine German luxury/sport attributes, stop looking- the S4 is your car. Of course, if you want more room, save more money and get a used RS6. =D
