Default I keep seeing folks running 8" rims with 35mm offset. Shouldn't the offset for various widths be as

follows:

7.5" = 45mm
8.0" = 40mm
8.5" = 35mm

In other words, isn't 35m offset too little for an 8" rim (would cause rubbing problems)?

Default Technically, my 18x8's are ET40...

...but Gary at Ronal shipped them with a 5mm hubcentric spacer (without which they could not be mounted), so it's an ET35. Before I lowered my S4 with Stasis, I never rubbed. Since lowering, I rub some with these wide 235/40-18's on the car (they're as wide as 240's). If I had true ET40 wheels, I doubt I would clear the suspension arms on the inside -- there is about 5mm of clearance there with the ET35 setup. I believe the intial concern and reason for ET35's instead of ET40's was caliper clearance.

Default Assuming there is no caliper clearance issues, and knowing BBS 18" wheels have 35mm offset and 235

tires will clear inboard on BBS wheels (I had this set-up for awhile), is anyone really having problems with a 40mm offset 8" wheel on the inboard side?

Well, with what's effectively a 240/40 tire, you're getting tall and wide.

Default rubbing will depend on the tires you have mounted on those rims

Also, look at the stock S4 wheel. Notice how far inside the wheel well it sits. An 8 or 8.5" rim with a 35mm offset will sit closer to being flush with the body work. You'll get a wider stance with a smaller offset. Now you just have to juggle how wide a tire you want on those rims. A tire on an ET35 rim is probably going to sit between the suspension upright on the inside and the fender on the outside and rub neither. If you bring have a 8" rim with ET40, you're going to run the risk of rubbing on the suspension upright, depending of course on the width of the tire. Conversely, you get closer to ET30 you're going to increase the likelihood of rubbing the fender (or the fender+wheel liner if you're particularly low).
