4250 Rpms, very -very- little clutch slip, only a slight chirp as she hooked up... and I left the intersection like someone kicked my car.
Too bad this was all wasted on someones grandmother in a silver Buick...

hahahha.. I did one of those the other day... almost exactly the same...
about 4200 RPM, just let her RIP!
little 4-wheel chirpage and I was across the intersection in like 100ms :-)
Mine was wasted on... no one... it was 4am and I was coming home from work and was bitter I was still up, so I decided to launch the car ;-)

I did a "battery pull" on my car on sunday after a rough start...
and found that I wasn't using the full potential of my Dorito X. 19psi (16psi originally) was now what it was holding at and the car was completely SMOOTH!!!
On a side note...has anyone ever experienced a misfire code on the VAG? My engine was shaking like it was out of gas and finally smoothed out but the CE light came on (this is what prompted me to pull the battery, no VAG on hand when it happened). The VAG revealed Misfires in Cyl. 6,4,3. I did start the car with the gas cap off last week (dumb me) and then put it back on. Any insight?

Sweet. I had to use a bit of a launch this morning...
Some guy in a Dodge Intrepid or some god-awful thing was pissed that I pulled up next to him at a light (even though there were clearly two lanes there). Since there was only one lane up ahead of us he punched at when the light turned green and I was just doing my normal acceleration but cranked hard on it when I saw him go. Beat him silly. Then like a typical bad-loser jerk he rode my bumper for the next mile till I had to turn off for work. What did he think, that he was just going to blow by me? Gimme a break.
Anyway, I have a question for you guys. When you say "launch" are you talking about just dropping the clutch 100%, like revving the engine to 3-4K RPM and then letting go of the clutch pedal in one quick motion? I have never done that in my S4 (which is the only manual transmission I've had) but I have done what I guess is called "slipping the clutch". I've revved up to around 3K and then let the clutch out smoothly in a fast but controlled manner. Can you describe exactly what you are doing when you "launch" for me so I can think about doing it (as nervous as I am). Is it hard on the transmission?

Well...
In answer to your last question.. no, its not 'nice' to the tranny. But, as long as you dont launch pulling away from every stop.. you should be okay...
Now.. launch techniques? You have to ask Galati (or NASA), I would be honored if he would give us some pointers.. but here is how I do it:
(legal babble: dont fuQ up your car and blame me)
Anyways.. I stomp down on the gas pedal and as the needle is swinging up past 3500 revs I start pulling the clutch out -rapidly- by this point, the car is building good boost and if you clutch is in good shape, the car will take off like it was kicked.
YMMV
