I really hate our mess of return lines in the gas tank.

I really hate our mess of return lines in the gas tank.
Anyone ever just rip all that crap out and put a rubber line down to the bottom of the tank?
I have to service my 044 pump again as it seems there is no check valve as my fuel pressure drops to nothing rapidly when the pump is not running.
And every time im in there i manage to get those lines too close to the fuel level arm/float and mess up my gas guage. Then i spend an hour messing around cursing the whole mess with my arm in a full tank of gas.
Seems to me the whole thing is really unnecessary.
