If a cop gets your license plate, but doesnt pull you over...
...how likely is it that you'll get a ticket? I might have been speeding, but I made a quick turn down the road and then up another road. I never saw the lights because I dropped out of view, though I saw his brake lights...

Good question...I do the same thing..
If I see a cop on the side of the road...or if I see brake lights come on...and I am speeding... I wait til I hit a turn or an off ramp and just go into hiding...
Worked perfectly the other day...
doing 70 in a 35...I see a big ole crown vic...way back in my rearview...I slow down a little...to about 50..car is gaining like hell...So around a tree lined sharp turn I just punch it...take the first turn and just take a long detour...
But i know he never got my plates...Never got close enough.

Didn't someone tell a story on the board a couple months ago...
...about some guy who was driving down a street about 100+ in his porsche and they got his plates. Later they came to his place of work and arrested him, but he had a good lawyer that proved the cops had no way of knowing who was driving the car. Either way, you are safe.

you might not get a ticket...
they usually only do that for motor-cycles because they cant catch them in the cruiser. if they loose you in a car then they get ragged on by the shift sargent... they PROBABLY wont give you a ticket. if you do its pretty much thrown out if you take it to court... the cop will not show up and you wont get the ticket.

Lots of good thoughts. But the reality is that it will vary by State, and by municipality. (more)
If a ticket is issued to you, make sure you don't admit that you were driving in that area, or on that day. Don't admit to anything. Unless the cop catches you in the driver's seat, and issues the ticket to you right there, they have major "proof" problems, in terms of prosecution.
If you get a ticket from this one, and you don't feel comfortable defending yourself, get a local attorney. The attorney will know what to do, and should be able to get the ticket dismissed.
