Imola Update

Back from the beach. She does handle differently with the MTM Stage 3 (350 hp) upgrade. Better, very "anxious" feeling. The throttle seems even more closely coupled to the speedometer. During rapid decel, there is a rumble that approaches mild back-fire, very authoritative.
I still do not detect any wheel alignment problems, good news as it tends to confirm the mild nature of the accident to the car frame itself.
This car needs power steering! Unlike my 1988 80q, the power is needed for handling in addition to slow speed steering. On sharp turns at moderate speed (note the bikes on top, no radical moves with them there!) you REALLY feel the fight in the wheel, takes some muscle to maintain a radius. Straight ahead, the steering is as responsive and sensitive as ever without power.
On the 2 hour trip, I had to charge after about 90 minutes run time, while we stopped for lunch, in order to make the final leg of the trip. Coming back it was more exciting, we got a late start, and stopped for a quick McDonald's dinner, and I was forced to balance charge time against fading daylight. We made it to within 2 miles of home when the car started shutting down everything, headlights first! The addition of the headlights really sped up the draining of the battery, but it became dark faster than I expected. Anyway, another 15 minutes of charge and we made it home!
The lack of radiator cooling fans became critical only once, we were stuck in traffic in Virginia Beach, trying to leave, and the temp guage *almost* reached full scale, the computer display was complaining! I was VERY concerned, as shutting it off that hot, without aux fans, could be worse. But fortunately, 15 seconds later, I found a hole to dive through, and 3-4 minutes at 45-55 mph brought the temp back to normal!
The dealer says lot of the remaining parts have arrived, so I expect to complete drivetrain repairs this weekend, and have only sheet metal painting left!
Jim De Arras

High winds from storms in our absense, knocked over a trash can. :-(
