Infuriating....nissan responds....what does audi do?
"Nissan, responding to thefts of 2002 and 2003 Maxima headlights, recently launched an identification program with the British firm, DataDotTechnology, in which car owners in the Northeast, including Massachusetts and Connecticut, can go to their local dealers and have small chips affixed to their headlights. Individual vehicle identification numbers are printed on the chips, allowing law enforcement officials to recognize stolen headlights in automotive chop shops.
Nissan has also redesigned its 2004 Maxima models to make it much more difficult for a thief to extract the headlights, a DataDotTechnology official said.
Doug Clark, spokesman for Audi of America, said the company is reviewing xenon headlight thefts and is weighing several options on how to address the issue. The Audi S4 is the most targeted of its models because xenon headlights are standard equipment. They are optional on the A4, and sometimes thieves mistakenly remove non-xenon headlights from unlucky A4 owners.

Maybe they really are reviewing their options (probably several).
Audi is a large company and is probably not as dynamic as we all might like. If they end up doing nothing, then that really sucks. But until then, at least wait and see. Now we know that they acknowledge that a problem does in fact exist.

personally i'm a pessimist about this...(trying not to be)
i'm betting they will work only as hard as the media attention makes them...this is the first such article i've seen and who knows maybe the last. i'm thinking they think it will just pass...we'll see. i'm not a patient man as I frequent both boston and the surrounding areas as well as NJ/NYC...I have anti-theft measures but would love to avoid the insurance hassle. IMO, the solution has to be very visible to thieves or else they will still fuxk up the fender/hood or door/lock if they try to steal it. and the insruance hassle is still there.

that would cost them an extra amount of $$ in bottom line profit....now they're making money..
e.g. replaced headlights is somekind of profit, as in revenue.....
I really DO NOT expect any action soon from the VAG group, if you recall how long it took them to recall the faulty ignition coils on the 1.8T engines.......

Not only did Nissan fix it in the 2004, they are retrofitting 2003 Maximas too (my sister has one).
And Audi wonders why it's profits weren't as high as they anticipated. Customer service and customer relations make a difference!
