Default Interesting article testing all the snow tires...

Too bad I can't read it, but I can get the idea. I think the first set of charts is ice and the second set is snow.

"This Swedish newspaper publishes the best testing of winter tires we've found. Editors test tires at the northernmost test track the world (in northern Finland). Testing methodology is meticulous; each tire is tested against a control tire, and ratings for snow, ice, slush, wet and dry pavement are all calibrated against the control. Studded tires are generally preferred for harsh Swedish winters. Top ratings go to the studded Continental Winter Viking 1 and Gislaved NordFrost 3; the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 4 and Goodyear Ultra Grip 500 also do well. The Continental Viking Contact 3, Gislaved SoftFrost 2, Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi and Michelin X-ice all tie for the best non-studded tire, but all rate just two stars compared to five stars for the top studded tires."

Dubbat is studded, dubbfritt is studless.<ul><li><a href="http://www.aftonbladet.se/medlem/merlasning/bil/pdf/dacktest041016.pdf">Test Results</a></li></ul>

Default and not many places in the US really need studded tires

hell, even here in Utah, a Nokian RSi is overkill 99% of the time. And its dry road behavior can be downright scary at times.

Tires like Dunlop M2/M3/3D or Blizzak LM22/LM25 or Michelin PA2 will score poorly in that, but will be perfect for most of the US.

Default Better version with photos and graphs.

Who needs to be able to read?

Alas, many of those tyres are unavailable in other markets. :-(

i was amazed at how much handling decreased on dry with snow tires compared to summers. :/

Default The RSi is much softer than the 2 and 4.

Ditto the Hakka 2 (which is also available unstudded).

This is one big reason to go with those tyres on powerful cars.

Gotta learn the limits of the car with RSi's on it, can't drive it like you stole it for sure
