Default An interesting day of driving experiences in the SF Bay Area...

Went for a drive with my boss this afternoon around 2:45pm. I dragged her along with me to pick up some scenic photo enlargements, which she was purchasing from me. She's a 50 something Jewish lady who keeps swearing she'll never drive with me due to my less than timid driving. (Teasing of course)

So we headed out up the 101N from the 92W and got caught in traffic caused by a car wreck. Concerned she wasn't going to get home until 7pm due to traffic (east bay commuter) she kept on me about making the run to the photo developer quick. So once we got through traffic and picked up the photos in San Bruno I told her we'd take a faster less direct route.

We hopped on the 380W to the 280S. I opened the ol'car up and turned to her and said pretty smooth ride at 120mph. She was shocked stating that it didn't feel like we were going any faster than 60. She was a bit concerned we were keeping the speed in the tripple digits, but soon got used to it. When we were slowing to 80mph she was complaining about the slow drivers and she really started complaining when we got back on the 92E and got stuck behind people driving 60mph.

She was pretty funny and kept on about how she really liked my car. It was pretty fun.

On to my evening drive home...
I had a fun drive up the 101N and was saddened to see a fellow Santorin Audi driver pulled over by SFPD on O'shaugnessy while driving through the city.

Default Please delete "THE" from hwy comments (m)

It's a small thing, but we NorCal folk are trying to maintain this distinction between SoCal nad NorCal.

EX:

I drive 101 or 280S to work. Biff from LA drives THE 101 S, while speaking to his therapist on the mobile.

I thank you,

8-)

Default Uh.. do you... "drive freeway" or "drive the freeway" I fear we're both wrong technically...

it should be "drive on the freeway"
or in this particular case "I drove on the 101 freeway".

It's an informal message. I'll come to you when I publish a book so that you can edit it

Default Nope...just drive 101...often...

as well as 5, 99, 280 and even THE 405 occasionally...

Folks from different regions often feel more comfortable when you speak in their language, so south of Bakersfield its all about THE hwys. I may just humour my SoCal buddies with a THE or two.

But, Cartman wouldn't ask Timm-ay to stop driving on THE 101 hwy, as most of the kids in SP are quick enough to pick up on the fact that 101 is a hwy. He would say, get your #@#$#% chair off 101 you bastard!

But thank you for your kind remarks on my editing skillz, feel free to send the book my way. And if you're paid per word, by all means, keep the THEs in there.

Default Does not compute! Does not compute! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!

Where's my billie club!

Sadly my initial response is rooted in my work. I actually get serious requests like this and it drives me nuts.

Where's my therapist!?

Default We haven't even addressed the "and then I'm all..." as opposed to the "and then I said"...

All those little intricate things that define S. California vs. N. California.

Hella sorry....

Jim (who grew up in S. Cal, but now lives in N.Cal)... who drives THE 101 every day to work.
