It seems swapping displays (the reason I got a new one, my display has about 15 horizontal and 5 vertical lines out) is either extremely hard, or impossible. I'd love to just throw a whole new cluster in, since Craig's is all in one piece and works fine, but I know the mileage is recorded on the cluster. I think you can get the mileage officially recorded before you switch over and put a sticker on the door, and I assume as long as I know the real mileage no one will care if I ever sell the car.
So, any reason not to just swap whole clusters?
Also, does anyone else find it weird that they record the mileage on a removeable part?

I don't think it's the same mileage, but I thought you could record each during the swap
I mean if I have 80K, and the new one has 30K, then when I sell I just add the difference to the original mileage, as long as we recorded officially the mileages at the swap...

Yeah, you can do that. Might make it tougher to sell.
There is no VAG approved way to change mileage on a used cluster, but I believe there are places out there that will at least advance the milage on a cluster (electronically) if the used replacement has less miles than the original.

Can you reset the used cluster to the new mileage? Add mileage to it? Or, can vag only do that
with a new cluster. The procedure is pretty simple.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/Non-Immo-cluster-swapping.html">http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/Non-Immo-cluster-swapping.html</a</li></ul>
