Just for the record, an STP #S16 oil filter does NOT fit our car
Went to autozone today to get the supplies to change the oil today. Grabbed 7 quarts of Mobil-1 0W-40, and went to the oil/air filter book cuz I didn't want to pay $15 for a K&N oil filter again (like I did last time)...So the book says STP #S16 fits for a 2002 Audi S4 2.7T and 2002 AllRoad 2.7T. So I get one, go back to my buddies house, put the car up on ramps, drain the oil, take off the filter (OEM) and go to replace it with the STP...bastard won't screw on....turns out the threaded hole on the filter is recessed too far back on the filter to get it to fit. SO I hop in his jetta, drive back to Autozone and get the damn K&N for $15....... grrrrrrrrr

OEM Oil Filter Link from ECS, what made you want to go local?

You can adjust the threaded nipple that the oil filter screws onto. Piggie confirmed this; you can
loosen the locknut at the base of the nipple (at the oil cooler or baseplate the filter gasket connects to) and then screw out the nipple and re-tighen the locknut. It seems that the length of the nipple varies from car to car, and if yours is short then there won't be enough reach to connect with the oil filter baseplate threads.
This is the reason the M1-204 oil filter was "de-lested" for use on the 2.7t engine - not enough threads on the nipple to properly attach the filter. BTW, both my VAG cars have plenty of reach for any filter, but you really should use a better quality filter than the STP, IMO.
Conclusion - your nipple is too short! ;-P

because AutoZone is literally 4 minutes from my place..and I never asked
the question of where to get an OEM filter.....
so why is OEM better/preffered over another brand?
