Local shop wants 45$\per to press bearings out of front upright - hit or buy shop press?
This is with me bringing them the bearings, and the uprights (off the car). Want 45$ a piece so 90 plus tax all together. Has anyone gotten this done cheaper?
Or should I just go to my local Harbor Freight and buy a 6ton shop press for 74.99?

Side note, I own a 20 ton Craftsman Professional hydraulic bottle jack, so I could essentially replace the 6ton one and have a little more power if the need be .. but I'm sure 6ton (12,000 lbs) would be plenty anyway.

I would be tempted to just have a shop do it...
remembering Mark P's writeup, he had to make some odd jig's out of misc metal to get everything to sit level...
How often do you need a 'cheap' press?
IMO, let the shop do it.

When I have to do the rears? I'll need it at least two more times :)
I read Mark's write up as well. It didnt look all that difficult but yes your right he did need alot of scrap metal and such which I dont have.
hmm .. I'm torn!

definitely buy one
You'll eventually need to do the rears plus I'm sure you can help a few buddies out when it comes time for their wheels bearings as well. The 6 ton wont be enough though... I can't remember how much Mark P's is right off, but I'm pretty sure it was in the double digits (10 tons maybe??) and it's just barely strong enough to work. Sometimes the bearings need to be wailed on with a hammer too.
Oh and ya. Aluminum uprights = bolted in wheel bearing :-)
