Looking for comparison and hope someone here has first hand experience
Has anyone had AVS Sports and gone to Pilot Sports? If so, can you compare them? Dry grip, wet grip, handling, ride, road noise? Thanks!

no first hand, but heard AVS's were just ok when you pushed them...but...
the pilots gave you much more grip and overall notice when they were about to break away and give. the Pilots traditionally have a softer, but better lasting compound, as with the Yokes have been harder and don't seem to wear as evenly. the Yokes have a louder road noise, but that doesn't bother me.
just my opionion. if you are looking I'd go with the Pilot sports or S0-3's although S0-2's are beginning to get reasonable with the release of the S0-3.

I have done it but went from 235-40/17 to 225-40/18 so I don't really know if that's an accurate...
comparison. My wheels rub right now so I haven't pushed it too hard. I will say they are quieter. Ride comfort was smoother but I tend to believe this is do to the fact that I raised the car almost an inch when I switched over the 18"s.

About the S-03s....
The S-03s have been really tempting for me and I've been thinking about ditching my Pilot Sports which still have a few months on them. Then I saw that a few people on an M5 forum weren't too happy with the S03s vs the OEM Pilot Sports.<ul><li><a href="http://www.bmwm5.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004609.html">http://www.bmwm5.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004609.html</a</li></ul>

I disagree about the warning of the traction breaking point...
My AVS's were very noisy when pushed hard and gave an earlier response on when you were approaching maximum grip compared to the Pilots. However, since I really haven't pushed the Pilots that hard I can't comment on how much better the grip is.

I had 235/45/17 AVS Sports & now have 225/40/18 Pilot Sports
I know the sizes are different but here is my take on them:
Dry grip: edge to Pilot sports. Both are excellent but I noticed that the AVS would squeal under a lot less cornering force where the Pilots just freakin' grip w/o any squeel unless really pushed hard. (The AVS squeel did scare the **** outta passengers so it was kinda fun!)
wet grip: about the same
handling: edge Pilot sports
ride: hard to tell due to the different size
road noise: Pilot Sports are much more quiet
AVS do have the price advantage. Great bang-for-the-buck but head to head, I'd go w/ the Pilot Sports.

225/45/17's but looking to get the 235/40/17's for more grip etc..
Stock suspension, I was just curious about the control arm etc..
So that's good news when I order new tires next month.
BTW, I found a special on AVS intermedates in the 235/40/17 size for only 101 a corner!!! but that's more of a dry day/track day only, b/c in the Wet, they SUCK!
