Below is from Post -

I am beginning to think that the brakes are the cuprit. Here is what I see:

* Loud moan from front of car
* Only occurs from stop
* Dissappears above 15 MPH
* When disappearing moaning will get quiter, becomine intermittent, then disappears
* Does not regularly occur
* Tapping break does seem to remedy issue

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1470521.phtml</a

My apr stgIII brakes do the same thing. I suspect turning the rotors or milder pads will fix it.

Default Sounds like definately the brakes if its affected when you tap the breaks...

Not sure why they would moan though. Maybe inproper lubing when the caliper/pads were installed?

At first before I read your thread I was going to say I have a moan that comes from the rear of my car but it has to do with the fuel pump and only occurs when I get low on fuel. Goes away after refil... Was pretty strange though when I heard it.

Good Luck

Default yes its the brakes

i thought my power steering was screwed up at first, but im fairly sure that its a problem with your pads touching the rotors ever so slightly.

my car has been doing it for a while now, my brothers s4 does it as well. we both have stoptechs and i think thats the problem, although it isnt really a problem, just an annoyance.

dont worry about it.

Default It may not be your brakes - differential

I have been dealing with the same noise for over a year on my 2001. The previous owner noticed it, as well. I have had several sets of pads/two sets of rotors/cvboots/... with no relief. I think there is something wrong with my front differential. The dealer won't do anything about it under the Certified Audi warranty(they feel that a noise does not equal a broken part) even though I complained to them about it prior to the original warranty ending and immediately after the delivery of the car.

If your brakes are not worn or if you replace them and it doesn't go way, please try to find a good mechanic to rersearch the problem further.
Also, is it worse in cold weather? Mine seems to be. Any resolution input you have would be very beneficial to me. I look forward to your post.
