Default your wallet ...

Seriously, though, here's my nonexhaustive list:

(1) Make sure previous owner did oil changes every 5k (instead of 10k recommended interval)

(2) Control arm and tie rod integrity.

(3) Check windshield very carefully for stress cracks.

(4) It would be best that thermostat/TB already be replaced. This would also be a sign that the owner knew his car and did preventative maintenance. You'll probably find some 50k cars that have had this done, but likely not at 40k.

(5) Save some cash for a good extended warranty or CPO coverage.

That's my $0.02.

Default Thanks. The cars I'm looking at are CPO-ed as well.

What's the usual interval on the 2.7 engines with regard to timing belt failures? I know a lot of people have had issue with the 1.8s at around 60k or so. Mine was good for 78k or so until I swapped it out just to be sure. The 100k interval Audi states seems to be a hope.
