Looking for some advice from you B5 and B6 owners
Hi everyone. I know that there are a lot of posts regarding this and did a search and had a problem finding some information I was looking for. I am looking to possibly purchase a new car and have always likeed the B5 S4 and the new B6S4 looks like an A6 and looks kinda dull, just my opinion so no flames please. I have had trouble getting into a B6S4 to teest drive and have been in a B5S4 before. They look pretty close in straight line speed and at highway passing speeds so straight line speed is not my main concern. I hear that the new chasis is much stiffer and handles much better than the B5. Is there a big difference in handling between the two cars in real life driving? This car will most likely only be tracked at performance driving schools when applicable, but other than that it'll be a get me outta the city fun car. Can some of you give me some infrmation regarding handling between the two and what benefits you see on one vs the other? Please do not include price in the analysis since I am looking for fun factor and will possibly jusst do simple mods only if at all. I am looking for awd because I do drive in the snow quite often in the winter. Sorry for the rambling, just wanted to give some backround to help with fltering out the inforamtion i am looking for. So basically I am looking for information regarding handling of the cars and overall fun factor of driving. Im still on the fence egarding the looks of the B6S4,but then again maybe if i can ever get in one i can make a better decision. thanks in advance to your help.

Here is my 2 cents.
If you are lookig for a car out of the box that will be reasonably fast and handel reasonable well. Then the B6 S4 is probably for you. It is heavier but does have a stiffer chassis by about 30%. Down sides are, not very tunable (power), heavy, and still have some good down side on depreciation.
As for the B5.....car out of the box is not as good as the B6 IMO. However, the B5 is WAY more tunable. You can get much more power out of the 2.7 in the end then you can the 4.2 unless you supercharge the 4.2 (Very very expensive). Put a very good suspension, brakes, chip, full exhaust on a B5 and you will be ear to ear. Go stage 3 and you will be handing cars costing 2 to 3 times as much their *** on a regular basis.
1. 997
2. 996
3. Auston Martin
4. M5 (e39)
6. E55
7. F355
8. F360
and the list goes on....some of these comparisons are very close....but still a well running B5 Stage 3 will take care of any of these.
Part of the draw to the B5 to me was how much potential the car has....I have been able to keep up with a GT3 at Sears and pass a 993 tt (modified) at Buttonwillow. There is video of Pat SoCal passing a race preped Corvette on the track.....the car is addicting once you start playing with it.
If I were to do it again I would still get the B5.....I am interested to see how a stage 3 B5 will hold up against a B7 RS4...my feeling is that it will be able to take it as well.
I hope this helps

I'd say if your not going to mod, cost notwithstanding, get the B6...better package stock for stock.
I have not had the personal experience of putting the B6 S4 through its paces, but I am pretty sure it will clean up a stock B5 S4 in most regards.
