Loud Brake pad squeal upon light application: normal or fubarred pad?
well, i know one of my pads is chunked anyway...i can see the damn thing. however i think they started squealign even befor ethat and my tech at the dealership told me its common with audis. my question is this, do the stock pads always sqeak? I'm not talking about just reverse either. if they do, can anyone recommend a set of squeal free pads?

Re: Mine have been doing the same thing lately.
Mine have been squeeling since 3 000 miles. I bring it to Audi every 4 or 5 000 miles and they spray some stuff on it whick works for some period of time. They also told me the same thing that some audis just have that problem but not all.

found a TSB actually...BUT i think these pads just are prone to squeal...
hope this procedure works...but i think its honestly just that these pads suck...anyone know of some better ones?

http://www.springbreakdaytonabeach.com/vwtech/www.vwwebsource.com/vwtechcontent/audipdf/a460001.pdf</a

yeah, mine went on to tell me to just jam on them a couple times (like bedding a new set)
and i told him..."i drive hard, and brake hard, turst me..." to which his response was audi's policy is they only replace pads at 2mm...which is ridiculous, especially with the way these pads chunk...pretty soon raw caliper would be grabbing metal rotor....not good!

Same here...
I use to adjust the way I braked and all the squeeling would go away...now the only way I get some relief is by running high pressure water to the calipers and it cleans out the brake dusk build up...but even that isn't for long

One fix for this
Is to go to an empty parking lot. Go in reverse somewhat briskly and smack the brakes hard :-).
I am serious, this works. I don't know exactly why (but I believe someone told me due to buildup of brake pad resin on the rotors, and by applying them hard against the grain you will get rid of some layers of the resin therefore getting rid of the squeling).
Be carefull doing this though. (Don't want any posts tommorow about screwing up your car by hitting a curb in reverse :-p).
