Default M3 owner buying a used S4

New to forum but presume you all the best place to make this query. I believe I'm soon to be another M3 convert. I've 2 vehicles available to buy. One is a pampered '00 in NJ with avail 18" wheels and 35m miles the other is a '01 theft recovery in VT with 35m miles on the car but only 4m on the new engine they dropped in. Asking prices are comparable. @$27,500. Am I crazy to consider the theft recovery? It's not a dealship car but one whose speciality is insurance claim resell. The other is a private sale.

Thanks very much.

Default i'd get one with warranty...maintenance on these cars is expensive...also

if you happen to blow your turbos (which isn't that uncommon), your warranty will get it fixed.

V. good point. That would be a big bummer. If the theft was bad enough to replace the engine why not the tranny too? Would an Audi dealer be able to properly evaluate this car or could there be all these 'hidden' issues that crop up. The warranty offered is underwritten by Kemper w/ no deductible.

Nope. It stayed when I left the comapny. They thought it was cool that their VP of Sales (me) raced in their car. SO now the techno guy drives it. When he picked it up from my house he stalled 2x leaving my driveway.
