Default MAF code that will not die!!

Hey guys/gals...I'm wandering over from the C5 forum with a MAF issue I'm having a helluva time irradicating.

First off, a little history: I have STFA repeatedly and know the basic problems associated with the 'MAF: Signal Too Low' code. The MAF is about 7 months old and was new from the dealer. The pink plastic portion of the MAF harness is MIA, so the harness has no latch to secure it, but it isn't backing off at all without it. Also, 2 of the 5 connectors in the harness are somewhat bent open. I attempted to bend them closed to no real avail. I'm tempted to somehow replace the harness connector (plastic AND metal bits) but the dealer doesn't carry the idividual plastic connectors.

Now to get to my problem: After clearing the code with Vag-Com, while ignition is on but not running, it stays clear if I turn the ignition on/off without starting car. Now, if I start the car, the code shows up but doesn't always light the MIL. If I clear the code while the engine is running, it pops right back up (again, not always throwing the MIL). If I start the car, run it for a few seconds, turn it off, and restart...the MIL goes on about 90% of the time...the other 10% it takes 2-3 starts.

I've been trying to get the car registered, but to do so I need to pass a saftey inspection. No point in having it inspected with an MIL on...you see where I'm going with this. I'm about at my wits end and would hate to get desperate (selling kidney, soul, first born, etc.).

I'm very experienced with Audis, am somewhat new to the 'newer' Audis, and have chatted with a good friend who was an Audi mechanic for 4 years. Again, I have Vag-Com, but am far from experienced with it.

Any and all help is EXTREMELY welcome. Thanks in advance.

Default If its a Bosch MAF, it could be bad already.

You should be able to replace the connector by itself if that is the problem, though.

Some of the Stage 3 kits use a Bosch RS4 MAF so the Hitachi MAF S4s are required to convert their connector. The kits come with the parts so they should be available from Audi as well.

Default Sounds like that MAF is dead already (even at 7 months). Try a new one and see if the code returns

I bet the MAF has already gone out. Do you have an aftermarket intaker/filter on the car?

Thanks. Do you have any info on the kits and/or connector part numbers?

I don't but I'm sure someone around here must. Try making a new post asking for it.
