Default Malfunctioning V1? Random rear laser hits ever few minutes. Anyone expeience this?

The kicker is the main unit is positioned behind the rear-view mirror so only the radar sensor is visible. The laser detecter is blinded by the mirror housing. doh!
At first I thought it was the plastic housing getting hot and IR heat setting it off, but it seems to happen in the cold, sun, fog, etc. I can't pinpoint a cause.
Any ideas are welcome.

Default I think you may have just identified the cause...

I know if I cover the laser sensor with my finger, it will go off. Perhaps being covered by the mirror is setting it off?

Try repositioning it and see if the problem persists.

I'll try. It has worked fine there for over a year, until now.

Default I've noticed that power fluctuations can cause that...what are you doing when it happens?

Messing with the sunroof, windows, high beams...anything like that?

Default I've had similar things happen and had it repaired under warranty

About 6 months ago, mine was giving false full strength X band readings every minute or so, and I had to turn off X band completely to stop it. Then a week later the Laser started doing the same thing. At this point I just sent it in for warranty repair and they fixed it. Well about a month ago, it started again, so I had to turn off X and Laser once again. And about a week ago, I swear I was getting similar false Ka signals, so I think it's time to send it back for repair AGAIN. (of course now it's out of warranty, although I would hope they repair it for free or give me a new one since I had this problem before)

Default Same problem here...

Mine started giving false rear signals. Drove in circles and it stayed on in the rear. Called them and sent it in. They sent me a replacement in a couple of days. It was on the latest software in the smaller box. Same problem with a friend of mine with the revision before the smaller box. Call them and send it back.

Default

I wonder why a solid-state device like a V1 would go bad....power surge?

Default Possibly (more)

After starting, mine would start giving false signals from the rear after about 2 minutes. Not very many at first. Then it got worse where it would go almost full strength from the rear then off. It never lasted more than a minute or so. At one point it came on almost full strength and I was at a place where I make a full circle. I circled twice and it never let up from the rear so I called Valentine. They were very nice and had me send it back. My first one from the early 90's got to the point I could drive up to a grocery store door and it would detect it(that was in my Honda and not my Audi-different power source). I sent that one back also. I have had trouble with V1's but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Default Mine would sometimes give me laser signals on low power. (m)

I noticed something really funny with an older V1 in my honda. If I took it off the windshield and layed it on the floor of the honda at a 9 degree angle(facing towards either door), if I accelerated rapidly(for the Honda anyway) the laser warning would go nuts. I thought that was really strange but I don't have that unit anymore.
