the rim/tire eating unhero has done it again! This time my rear drivers's side P6000 went on me Paul Bauer style...total tread separation. It'd only been a week since the last time I checked tire pressure(man smart tire woulda helped as i ssupect underinflation)...

Here is the scenario....cruising at 80mph (like everyone on I95 does) to work this AM...I start to feel stumbling/vibration...then i smell smoke, i start to pull over. By this time the smoke (which i can at this time tell is tire and thank god not turbos blown) is heavy and i can see it out my rear view window...i'm am halfway into the emergency lane going may 20-35 mph and i see my tire treads fly off in my rear view mirror (which iwas checking ot make sure people were slowing down etc.)...and i roll to a stop. 2 minutes after i make a phonecall to a freind to help me out...as i'm digging through my trunk(to get to my spare..which is bubbled by the way) which was literally FILLED with old clothing from my GF that i was going to donate to teh salvation army this week.... i look up to see Mass H.E.L.P! They get me on my way in less than 5 minutes, and took only about 5 minutes to find me... i make it to work only 10 mintues late! not bad....

oh, the sad part of this story is a pearl white S4 was behind me watching all this happen, and didn't stop to see if i was alright or not...he simply passed me right before my tire separated...**sigh**...where's the audi love?

anyone got a P6K with roughly 8-10K or so on it in good shape for me (i'm tire whoring...yes) in MA? ***sigh***


AVUS actually looks like it is ok...as there was still a lot of rubber left on the lip of the rims....

i commute from teh south shore 93S to 95S everyday...

seems like a tread seperation would make the car nearly lose control, especially at highway speeds.

before teh tread actually separated....before teh actual separation...first you hear, abnormal tire noise(was goin about 80 or so at this point)...then you feel shaking (it was at this point i statred to make my way over to emergency lane so i was slwoing down from about 75-20mph ro so)...then as teh tread separated.....it gets REAL rough...thankfully the full separation occurred after i had taekn most of teh speed out of the car...and i rolled to a stop with light braking..

i think if i had not noticed the abnormal tire noise...it coulda been a lot worse....

oh and ESP/EDL kicks in like crazy as teh tread separates and afteerwards...
