Message for those approaching "timing belt time"
Whether you plan on changing it at 60k or 115k, you might want to consider changing the accessory (rib) belt tensoner bearing at the same time. Mine just went at 121k. When I replaced the timing belt at 80k, I changed everything else usually recommended, both timing belt bearings, the water pump, thermostat, and the ribbed belt. No one ever recommended the ribbed belt tensioner bearing. Only another $75-$100 and it would have been worth it.

Don't know yet, have to pick it up tonight.
My guess, $250-$300. And get this, when I took it to Neil, I had just got back from a trip to Rochester and it was covered in salt. He told me to go wash it first :-)

LOL!!!
Well, if the part is about $100, and you're spending about $200 total, I'm assuming it's pretty easy to get to. Remove the bumper, slide the condensor and rad forward, and simply unbolt and replace?
I'm just trying to justify why you would get it done with the timing belt. Doesn't seem that you need to.

Re: LOL!!!
its over-lapping labor, they have the belt off anyway, might as well replace it since the tech is right there. Does not make sense to replace timing belt only, then have the water pump or tensioner go out

Yes, that's about what's involved. I'm guessing it will be 2-3 hrs labor
But I still would have had it done at 80k, but that's me; I know I'm keeping this car awhile.
BTW, I just spent over $200 at Properautocare. Want to come down and show me how to use all this stuff? Going to finally use the PC and try some of that Mazerna(sp).

The waterpump I would agree with...that's a little more work.
Pulling the bumper and sliding the radiator forward is monkey's work (DIY). So I'm just evaluating this from *my* standpoint (well, John's too). If it's something we can address at a later date without much fuss, I would rather save the money until the part actually does go bad. Not to mention...there aren't enough high mileage S4's out there to prove that 100K is the lifespan of this particular part. It's possible that most will go much longer and John just got unlucky. I'm fortunate enough that I only have 37K miles on my car...plenty of folks here will uncover all these issues, and I'll be able to repair things a little more cost effectively based on failure rates of the parts on higher mileage cars. =)

Sure! Let me know when.
I'm helping Theo out this Sunday in center city. He's installing a new suspension. I might be helping with a brake kit install in Princeton on 4/4 or 4/10 (up in the air). Fun Run on 4/3. So pick a day and we'll do it.
