Default Metal vibration noise when engine is under load (more)

It sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment, and gets louder as the load gets heavier (more throttle, up hills, etc) and disappears when under normal load, regardless of rpm (up to 4000 at least, still breaking in.)

Any ideas?

Default Check the heat shields surrounding primary cats and respective exhaust pipes...

all you need to do is get under there and see if the aluminum heat shields are too close to the cats or the exhaust pipes leading out of them.

High loads cause more vibration and those wimpy heat shields then to start rattling. Just bend them far enough away so they won't be hit anymore.

Default Mine has it! It's not the shields. It seems to be INSIDE the exhaust. Car goes in the 31st for it.

It MAY be a bad cat. I will post results.

Can you get to the heat shields from the top, or do you have to get under the car?

Default You may be right but...more.

I read somewhere that the Audi exhaust uses a tube within a tube design in the headers. This is the same horrible design that my former VTEC Integra had and after about 25K it started rattling. Long story short the dealer didn't fix it and it got worse after the warranty was up and I ended up having the car rattle for 130K miles. This may be what happened with yours (Ike7) although that would awful early in its life. High heat followed by condensation rusted the pcs. that kept the two pipes from touching.

I'm going to get under there tomorrow and check out those heat shields... otherwise, I'll just start my list for the first maintenance...
