What I have noticed is that most americans have trouble when they are given military times, this excludes people in the military of course

I thought it was one of the hidden functions through the stereo...
like hold down button 5 and turn it on gives you the equalizer - I thought a different button combo gave you this option. I know someone posted what all the different combos result in, but I can't remember (it was a while ago) - to bad the search engine is kinda funky.
