My battery is completely dead (my fault) what do i tell the service dept?
i searched and saw that the battery is covered under factory warranty. But, i left my dome light on over the weekend and the dead battery is my fault. What should i tell the service reps? I definately think that i shouldn't admit any guilt...its 90F here anyway! Should i say that the car won't start and that i checked the battery and its dead. Should i tell them that i tried to charge it? I thought i would ask here before i call the man and give him something to use against me in warranty court.

They shouldn't give you any problems. I had a full custom stereo in the car and never
gave me a problem. My battery only lasted 2.5 years too.
|
I'd go buy a battery, put it in and call it a day...less headache that way......
Unfortunately, you've thrown the "Dome Light On Too Long" code (P00576) and there is simply no way to fool the dealer on this one - they'll know.
You'll show up to get your car and find the police there to arrest you. Just fix it yourself. |
I know you.
Did you try charging it?
|
I wouldn't tell them anything.
Don't give them a chance to blame it on you.

yep, completely dead, current cuts out after 2 secs...long time now see mikey!!
|
"Dome Light On Too Long" code (P00576)...are you serious? seriously!
|
Try jumper cables that way you can try that and take it over. Do not shut off tho.
Battery is toast.
|
2nd.
|
LOL Jason.
|
Lol, it posted a code? Mine's dead today too... wondering if there is enough juice to Vag it lol.
Get to mess with that later today. Ugh.
|
Don't replace - try using another battery in series and then charge
I've used one of those (cheap) portable starter kits which is bassically a smaller 12v battery with jumper cables.
These Audi batteries don't seem to recover after a total drain but STFA and you'll find that they have been successfully resurrected ;-) |
Update, jumped car, it's running, 13.7v coming in...driving to dealer now...
hopefully they will replace it. like VR_Life said, most batteries don't fully recover from total depleation. thanks for help everyone!
|
no, it was a joke....glad you got the car started though!
|
If you get to the dealer, then the batter is not dead...
so they won't replace it. If you get there, it means the battery was dead, but the battery is still capable of holding a charge, and driving to the dealer may partially or totally recharge the battery. You are correct, you've done a little damage to the battery by discharging it...but unfortunately not enough to warrant replacement (again, IF you make it to the dealer).
If you don't make it to the dealer...you'll probably get a free battery, and tow. :) |
Check and make sure there's water in it. Mine was bone dry.....
it was replaced by Audi but it was a struggle. Maintenance free doesn't totally mean "maintenance free". To Audi, just replace when the water runs out.

Car at dealer overnight to monitor bat draw...was low on water, know more tomor
|
i got it, i liked that you included a vag code in for added effect :-)
|
Yes!!! got the call, battery replaced...1 down, now time to tackle my diming display :-(
They ended up hooking the car up to monitor battery draw because the tech noticed that something was pulling more amps than normal??? well, they eventually determined that the battery was the culprite and replaced it. That's the second time the battery has been replaced in this car. Next time it happens, i'll be out of warranty and put in an optima.

In the older Audi clusters there is a lamp behind the LCD that can be replaced - check ETKA or get
the kit from BlauParts<ul><li><a href="http://www.blauparts.com/parts%20dept/bodyelectrical/c2/c2b/c2b3/Audi_Xenon_Gas_Headlamp_Bulbs.htm">Scroll down to Bulb Instrument Upgrade Kits- 96~01</a></li></ul>
