My first session with the VAG-COM ... got DTC of 17963 from Engine Controller (more)
17963 Charge Pressure, Upper Limit Exceeded
35-10 --- Intermittent
The VAG-COM tool works like a charm. I cleared some central-locking system DTC's and poked around a bit. It was 96F outside at lunch so my enthusiasm was limited!
I found the above DTC stored for the Engine Controller (did not erase it of course). There was an earlier discussion (I searched) about this code but all related to bad (assumed) chip programming. I have not chipped and my TBB was intact when checked by Dynospotracing a couple of weeks ago.
Any advice on what it could be? Perhaps it is related to my earlier posting... https://www.audiworld.com/forum/m/s4/msgs/67650.phtml.

That code doesn't relate to bad chip programming. typically you can blame it on one of the following
things
torn TBB.
Driving really hard. everyone on the track at the last event got this and EGT's that were too hot.

Hmmm. Could this be the cause of TBB tears..
This is what slvrbullets4 said may be causing TBBs to tear.
1. WOT/Max boost
2. Close throttle
3. Abrupt rise in pressure until "vent" valve responds.
He is looking into an upgraded valve. Search archives for more info.
