Default My parents car was totaled and I need some advice regarding insurace payout!!!

IT was other party fault and now their insurance is not willing to pay retail value of the destroyed car!?

In these cases what does insurance use to determine value of the car? Kelly blue book?

Car is 1999 mazda 626 LX with 76K on it. According to the KBB its retail value is $6,685, but insurance adjuster is offering only $5650?

What is best way to tackle this and get most cash out of them?

Thanks!!

Default Car dealers claim they don't use KBB either for trade-ins. I don't know who uses KBB, but it seems

nobody does...

Default I work for one. KBB is higher then the typical market. We use manheim auto auction

and other sources. In trade-in KBB can help sometimes, but not always.

Default No... why would they pay retail? Retail is what they'd re-sell the used car as. Wholesale is what

they should pay. That's how they make money. Otherwise they'd lose money, because they have to pay transaction costs (real estate, insurance, and the salesperson) for taking in the used car and re-selling it. But all that's besides the point.

I take your point that the INSURANCE company should pay retail for your parents' car that was totaled. But the point is, KBB purports to list both wholesale and retail prices, yet they're not necessarily accurate.

Default They should be using a combo of KBB retail and NADA...

My Mom just wrecked her '05 escape and it was totalled. nada was like $20k and high KBB retail was about $19. They split the difference.

It might be a little different in your state maybe?

Thats crock if they only give you that price. I think you have the option of going to a dealer and getting a qoute from them to counter the other insurance companies claim.
