Default My A-pillar gauge install was a success!

Thanks to funkadelic S4 and Taner for their excellent write-ups on the install. It was a lot of fun to read through a procedure, and then actually experience it for real in my garage. Also, thanks S4er for offering the help.

This gauge is a great investment for anyone who has a case of turbo paranoia (like me). Now I can accurately stay out of boost while the engine is still cold. I can also monitor my boost levels to watch for signs of a hose leak or other turbo maladies. This is definitely one item Audi should've included from the factory -- especially on such a turbo-centric car!

Now a question. When I sit at idle, I'm showing -20 psi. In fact, during any calm non-aggressive driving, a negative boost level is indicated. Why is this? What are the turbos doing up until I reach positive boost levels?

Anyway, here are the obligatory pics. The second one just shows what is visible of the installation from the engine compartment.

Default B/C you are under vacuum at idle, no built boost. BTW, it's not -20 psi at idle

it's like -20 cm Hg...just to let you know.

Default oops, sorry, I meant in Hg, 1 bar = 760 mm Hg = 29.9 in Hg = 14.5 psi, ....

so you're reading about -9.7 psi of vacuum at idle.

Default Excellent sig, I love half-life & opp. force. I really want to download new levels, but I have a....

slow connection. The first time I saw your username I was thinking about the good old days of playing half-life in between studying in college.

By the way, where did you get cloth that matched the A-pillars? I have the onyx interior.

I think they construct the pod using a stock pillar.

Default Thanks. Hopefully you'll get some broadband or something soon. HL is still a blast!

However, the latest version offers actual voice communication between players in deathmatch. Now, for the first time, we can hear all the maniacal giggling of some of the world's most deranged Red Bull addicts! Oh happy day. I'm still looking for the "listen-to-dumbass = off" console command.

You probably remember maps like gasworks, stalkyard, crossfire, etc. I still play 'em! Get some cable or DSL and let's start an S4 clan! ;-)

That's the VDO gauge that SPP includes. The whole A-pillar kit is $265; the gauge alone is like $25.
