Default My stolen Avant recovered in Newark

Went through the comedic process with the Newark police and the towing company, then got to see my car. Very little damage - I was surprised. Some scratches down the sides, wheels dinged up, personal items gone, headlights gone. But that was it. I had the dealer come pick it up, and he did some diagnostics and said the car wasn't throwing any fault codes. I'm sure the thieves drove it pretty hard, so I'm concerned about the drivetrain, etc., but so far they haven't found anything. So they'll fix it up and send me on my way. Not even close to being a total loss. Bummer.

Default They don't say anything. They don't even investigate.

I was told that unless the car was stolen via carjacking, or unless your stolen car was used to commit a crime, no investigation takes place. I guess there's just too many. I naively asked if they were done with the car for evidence purposes (fingerprints, etc.). They laughed. Plus, since the fees are so high to get your car back, the city has a financial incentive not to solve the problem. OK, that's a little cynical, but the fees are pretty ridiculous.

Default And good old Mayor Sharp James was just re-elected. The locals must think he's doing a great job...

of keeping the local economy on track by not treating car theft as a serious issue. Lets get Giuliani in there!
