Mystery. Other than a nail, what else can make my tire not hold pressure. I pump to 36 and now 32.5

I always check when car has sat for a while. I cant find a nail anywhere. am i just missing it? what else can it be?

bad valve, bead leak, temp drop, filled tire on hot day

take a spray bottle and spray down the tire looking for bubbles

tristateS4 03-31-2007 07:53 PM

I have been checking over 2 wks. morning pump. late evening check.

When the tires where cold. i seem to lose 1 psi a day. I have never had a bad valve or bead leak. I did just get this tire new from tirerack.

Can i just ask my dealer to check for a nail and or give me a new valve?

small crack possibly? Stem?

TheSkinFox 03-31-2007 08:04 PM

bent rim?

Could be causing it to leak from the bead.

If you've got steel stems, check them... mine leaked.

Pump it up to 50 and put it into the kids plastic pool. Follow the bubbles.

Just fill a spray bottle with soap and water.. spray the whole tire.. find out

As others have mentioned check the valve stem.

It's best to take the tire off the car... lay it flat on the ground.. spray the sidewall including bead... spray all the tread... + valve stemp (cap off obviously)... it'll show the leak pretty quick

Valve stem core, rim seal.

Spray a little light soapy water around everything. If you see bubbling well..there you go.

davenew 04-01-2007 07:30 AM

what wheels do you have?

tristateS4 04-01-2007 08:22 AM

stock 17" avus and kumho ecsta asx

davenew 04-01-2007 10:22 AM

ok, I'd spray some water on the valve stem & see if it bubbles..

Most tire shops remove the valve from the stem when replacing tires. The air comes out faster with the valve removed from the stem. I'll bet they reinstalled an old one..
