Default NASA wheel repair...

I just re-read the NASA wheel repair guide and its left me with two questions...

1: Is there any harm in having the wheel removed from the rim before repairing? (Aside from the change of damaging the rim while re-mounting the tire)

2: Why does the guide recommend against re-painting the entire rim? My wheels have scuffs all over the place and there isn't much of the rim that wouldn't benefit from a re-paint.

Thanks for everyone's advice.<ul><li><a href="http://www.robsaudiworld.com/wheelrepair.htm">Link to the original NASA guide</a></li></ul>

Default Confused...how do you "remove the wheel from the rim"?

Do you mean removing the tire from the wheel?

Default he does not recomend repainting the entire wheel because he used a spray can

and you can not do a good job with that ..plus you have clean / wet sand the entire wheel in oreder to paint it .. do you want to do all that? i doubt it .
i will have to do it myself also on my stockers and on the "new" wheels i just got ( that are nicked in couple places but only on the very edge which is easy to blend in )

Default While on the subject, anyone know where to find Plasti-kote #3032 other than Pepboys?

Or was it #3230, whatever

Default Check the link in my signature...

I have done this three times without removing the tire.

It is much easier with the tire removed, especially when it's time to mask.

lemieux is correct as far as painting the entire wheel with a can. However, it can be done. The critical step is the clear-coat. I did it with the second of my two wheels that needed repair.

Questions welcome....
