Need Help... Stock brake pads at the track... need feedback
Ok. So i have a 2001 s4 with 3500 miles on it. I've only braked really hard "street use" 10 times max.
Taking it to the track on Tues for a High perf. driving school (audi day) Seattle, WA I hear they wont' last the full day, so whaddya get after?
Pagid
porterfield
mintex red box
EBC Green (track only would be yellow or red I'd guess).
I plan to go more often and instead of getting audi to replace the stockers, Gee can I have more dust please? I'd like to have track pads that can take the punishment, but still be good on the street.
Thanks!
Dave

The most important thing. DON'T keep the pedal down after you have stopped!
If the brakes are smokin hot, the pads will melt when they are pressed up against the rotors. If the rotors aren't turning, the brake pad goo will transfer (print) onto the rotors. This will translate into a sticky spot and you will get a vibration upon braking.
Easy ways to do this:
1) Parking brake after run session. Just say NO!
2) A spin....both feet in....and rotors stopped with brakes on full blast. Don't spin when brakes are hot :-)
3) Do not remove your wheels when the rotors are super hot. The floating rotor can tilt...and print the pad. That's how I just screwed my rotors up about a week ago.

use the stock system within it's limits. they will not perform like BigRed's or StopTech's!
warm them up a few laps with progressive stops or you'l warp and score the rotors and risk wasting (heat glaze and crack) the pads.
before you get off a track session. do a cool down lap or two and use the brakes sparingly. once you stop, don't use the hand brake: it presses HOT pads on one part of the small rear rotors. so bring something to wheel block your car.
all these things should give you pretty good results with the OEM brakes at tha track.
