Default Need some help from the exhaust gurus..

Hey guys, i have a borla exhaust on my Stage 2 S4. Its just to quiet, to the point i dont even hear it it seems. It still has all the stock cats aswell. What do you guys think about taking out the mid muffler and just putting a piece of pipe in there to get a little more aggressive sound? I have started it with no exhaust, just downpipes, and it wasnt that loud at all. Does anyone have any expeirance with doing this? What do you guys think? Thanks for the help..

Default before you modify the borla, modify your downpipes.

with an aftermarket downpipe, deleting some (or all, if you go with testpipes) of the cats makes quite a difference in volume. if its still too quiet, then remove the rear muffler of the borla, not the center muffler. if you notice, all the exhausts produced for this car that run one muffler have the muffler in the center, not in the rear section. i believe running a muffler in the rear section only will yield more drone than a muffler in the mid section only.

Default Remove the rear resonator. If you remove the center one you'll have cabin drone.

Or- get LaBrees lol. My car is really loud at WOT. Love it.

Bravo for the great information. Modified DPs are great, in both functional and acoustic POV.

Default I have a G2 that I just deleted the center resonator....(more)...

After countless posts I've read of NOT to do this, I decided to try it out. Welded a new flange onto a 3" dia. pipe and welded that on the the midsection. Started it up, & at first it didn't sound like much of a difference. After I got on it, WOT was just my liking. I can live with this minimal amount of droning (from 1500- ~3000 rpm). At cruising speeds in 6th gear, w/ the windows up or down, I can hear the exhaust more prominently than w/ the center res. on. Sal @ Elite-Motorsports is in the process of having my piggies done so I expect a significant increase in the amount of audible tone (vs drone). Still running cats though.

I'll take video. Should've taken some clips prior to the piggie surgery.
