Watkins Glen 8-28 8-29
Just came back from Watkins Glen with the Northeast quattro club. It was a lot of fun and I got to meet some nice people. A small group of us had gone together. Dave, and Jeff went from my neck of the woods and I saw a lot of familiar faces including Anthony, Matt, Noah, Carter and others from previous track events. The NEQ did a great job organizing everything and I can't thank them enough for what they did. We had a nice dinner at a place called the Fountain Blue.
The weather could have been a little more cooperative but that's how these things go. It was drizzly and damp on the first day. The Glen is at the top of a plateau so while it was clear in town, the track was fogged in. The fog finally lifted enough for the track to open.
When our run group go to go, it was a blast. I was working on my line and trying to be smooth. Our group got a couple of runs in. There were some really fast drivers in my run group so I got passed more than I passed but I was good with that. I had put the Stop Tech club pads on and was using Motul RBF 600. Over all I had few complaints. On day two it was rainy and foggy. Our run group managed to get in one track run before the fog rolled in. We then did some skid pad sessions trying to get the car to break free and use the throttle input to modulate the car's steering. Rear drivers like the Bimmers, Vettes, and an RX8 did well here. Much harder to do in my S (even in the wet) than in the snow.
Got a ride in an instructors C2. Lots of grip there! While we were on the session we got passed by some really nice cars including a GT2, a GT3 and a Carrera GT. Kind of nice that it was being used for what it was meant for rather than being a garage queen! What a great sound it made as it blew by!
A bunch of cars were chipped there but most would agree that they had more power than they could use. A few put their cars in stock mode and found that they had plenty of power.
2Bennett was there with a couple of realy cool cars (both were modified B5 S4's). There was a champion Audi car there too but I think it was sold to someone else.
There was an older series Bimmer there that went off the track at turn 9 but no damage or injuries.
All in all it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately for me it'll be a while before I get my next track fix. So, to all of you who've thought about going to a track day, do it! The Audi Club does a nice job at introducing you to it. You'll learn a lot about what your car can do. It's a great experience.

I thought it was serious and resulted in some bent valves but I didn't ask
what might have caused the prob. Every one there was pretty cool. The 2Bennett cars were cool too.
