Default New here...and have some questions....

I am in the market for another car.....I have about 30k to spend....i have been looking at many cars, but there is something about the S4 that really strikes me...

Can anyone give me the pros and cons with the S4 and its performance. And I am looking into a car that is mod friendly....please advise! Thanks!

BTW...my name is Andy...and I am new here!

Default Welcome

Pros - looks great, modable, very capable

Cons - significant risk of various failures on modded cars (turbos, MAF, synchros and more). Also, mods tend to quickly drain your wallet.

Welcome to the group - there's a lot of great info and knowledgeable people in this forum.

Default Re: Welcome

Thanks! as far as mods go....do they not hold high numbers well?? As far as money goes for mods..that really doesnt bother me...once i get the car i have about 5-8k to play with for mods...

as long as a car will except it...i dont mind putting anything on..but if i would have problems...then that is when i would want to stop my modding..

Chances of failure goes down dramatically if you buy a 2001, and DON'T install the x-chip.

Default He is suggesting to buy an 01.5 but the Xchip thing is BS

As with any chip the wear and tear increase not just a single chip. For the most part I have been runing the Xchip without any issues for 20k easily.

Default You could do stage 2+ (Chip, exhaust, downpipes) for under $5k, giving you ~350 hp.

Then there's always turbo upgrades if that's not enough .

Default It's verifiable that xchip causes problem, do a search and see.

I loved the GIAC on my Passat and probably would have bought the regular version for my S4. But I would never consider the x-chip, I know I could get new turbos under warranty with my stock ecu but why take a chance. I've got MTM and the power is phenomenal and I defy you to say it doesn't feel like it's stock.
