New MAF and car is running like butta. Its amazing that the MAF can affect performance so much.

Amazing? Not really, assuming you know what the MAF does ;-)
It's what meters the air and lets the ECU know how much fuel to supply.
When the MAF is dirty, it reads LOW and tells the ECU to put in too little fuel, causing the car to run lean (too much air, not enuf fuel).
All hell breaks loose then ;-)
