Noticed something interesting today running 100 octane...
So, with a stock exhaust, the wonderful sandblaster noise exists... so put in 100 octane, and its mysteriously gone... The exhaust definetly has a much much different tone when running 100 octane, but what confuses me is the fact that on pump gas, it sounds like the boost is very 'turbulent?' and creates that sound, but with 100 octane it doesnt? How can that be? Its running the same, if not a little more boost - is this due to the change in advancement in timing and the exhaust pulses? I am not an expert in how exhaust pulses are controlled, but I really don't see how X amount of boost would flow through the system any 'smoother?(lack of better word) using higher octane than pump?

100 octane does burn cooler, but it's marginal....
The difference in engine sound comes from the ignition advancment your ecu dialing in to run at an optimum level. My car sounds different as well. As for the exhaust sound, this will also sound slightly different with your ignition advanced, but why it would cancel the zandblaster sound, I do not know.
Take care,
