Default Oddness after Brake install? Mintex Red Q

Ok, I snagged AWE's OEM sized brake upgrade kit. Because I just don't have any time anymore, I had the local Audi/VW shop do the install. For those that have had This kit and/or Mintex Reds, Does it take a while for these to bed in? Right out of the parking lot driving easy, I thought I was going to run a red... the pedal sank a bit further than I anticipated. I could feel some friction on the brakes, but not much stopping power. just after the red, I had the chance to give it some speed, then eased onto the brakes harder and harder. Got some smoke for a few seconds too... The pedal still sank lower than with the stock setup. The mech. says it';ll take time for the brakes to bed-in/adjust themselves. But the lack of stopping power initially scares the s--t outta me. My Hawk HPS/OEM Brembo setp on my old Si, was much safer on the 1st drive, not to mention after the bed-in process.

SO, long story short, am I paranoid? Or is this normal?

Thanks in advance, and as usual, you guys rock!

Default You said, "I snagged AWE's OEM sized brake upgrade kit"

What does this kit consist of? You say it's the same size, so I don't see how the rotors would be an upgrade unless they solve the warping problem. The pads are a difinite downgrade. I'd attribute the inferior performance to the pads.

Default They don't bed themselves - you have to do it.

STFA for proper bedding procedure and go do it. After they recover, the pads should work better. If they don't you either have a problem, or that setup/pad sucks.

FWIW, my Hawk HPS need to be re-bedded every now and then.

Default Sounds like you might have air in the brake lines.

But as far as the Mintex Reds, they don't bite as hard as the stock pads do.

Default Hehe, I know that. Just surprised at the initial pedal feel...

After giving them a bit of love tonight they are much better. We'll see tomorrow morning.
