Default Not as easy as it sounds

Just did mine last night.

Once everything is apart, you have to de-solder about 50 points that are about 1 mm wide. There is a product called QuikChip to help remove the old chip and it does work, but can make a mess. You got to be really sure you clean up the excess solder it dumps so as not to short anything. If I were to do it again, I would buy an inexpensive hot air rework tool. Re-installation was not easy.

I have alot of experience with electronics and trying to get all those points soldered properly took patience, steady hands, a new .07 tip, a magnifying lamp (old eyes) and a few attempts. Whole process of removal and re-install of display about 1hr, 45 mins. I can tell you I destroyed the old display upon removal and can see how you could damage the new one easily. Not for the faint or heart or those with little soldering experience. You can not use a $10 soldering iron to do this.

Using a non-Chinese display, I figured I saved $100 over having it repaired by www.ModuleMaster.com. You need to decide if it is worth it. It was a challenge to do once (and I like challenges), but I doubt I would do it again.

FYI, I tried the heat trick on the ribbon cable and the pressure trick on the display edges and neither worked. When I looked at the ribbon cable with a back light, I could see points where the cable had come apart. I can not see how it could be fixed without creating jumpers over the broken parts. Considering those "wires" are hair thin, it is doubtful anyone could repair.

Would any of you guys know the LED part number for the coolant needle? My LED light on my coolant needle just went out on my 2002 Audi S4. My gauge needles are white. Thanks in advance.

Default Replacing jeager with vdo cluster

Hi, is there anyone to reply my prob. Pls help.
I have a 2000 year audi a4 with jeager cluster. My cluster has lots of problems with Lcd, fuel gauge, temperature Gauge and gas tacho etc.
I found a Vdo cluster. I wonder if we can transfer the immo and replace the whole jeager cluster with vdo. I'm afraid of the immo problems. Pls help. Thank you very much.

I have been lurking here a while, and have to say; old, but gold thread, made it easy to complete. However, I now have the issue that my entire screen is red after replacing it. I have tried the search with no luck, does anyone have any idea what that would indicate? I.E. the LCD lights up red when it should be saying "press clutch pedal to start", and when I press the maintenance button (left ****), the top lights up yellow as it should. It almost seems like the screen is getting reversed signal, as every cell is lighted. I have read that some of the screens are not polarized, and my polarized sunglasses trick did not work. I took the LCD back off of the board and checked for excess solder outside of the traces, and then re-soldered, everything seems hooked up fine, thoughts?
