Oh, Wise Ones - Suspension Problem?
Keepers of all Audi knowledge - I beseech you. I have an 01 S4 - 92K miles. All is good - well mostly.
Last week while travelling the interstate at about 75 mph a rather violent front end vibration began. So much so that i exited the freeway and pulled into a gas station expecting to see a flat tire. Nope. All good. Tire pressures checked fine. Wear looked normal. I got back on the highway and experienced no problem. I chalked it up to a weird stretch of road.
Since then, the problem has come and gone several times on different stretches of road - always at speeds above 60 mph. The vibration can be felt in the steering wheel (of course). It almost seems like a wheel out of balance, but that would happen all of the time.
I'm thinking shock/strut as most likely. The bounce test isn't very conclusive.
Anybody got any thoughts?
