Default Oil Consumption/Leaks

01 6-speed - 18K miles.

I check the dipstick once in a while, though the last time I have a note made of it was at 15K. Last night the oil-can with MIN came on. Sure enough, dipstick is barely damp on the end. Put in a quart and a half, could have put 2 in without hitting the MAX. Car's been running warmish but it's been 80+ and high humidity of late so I thought nothing of it. What are problem spots I should peek at (Other than the obvious)?

(This is my one non-british car and it's the one with oil problems?)

Default Maybe you should ask SmokinS4 about this. (m)

Looks like he's saying that clamp killed both his turbos. Reminiscent of JFK and the "magic bullet" theory. With the simplest explanation tending to be the correct one, when you have a half a quart of oil in the pan and your turbos are going, would you throw a clamp in there and pray that you can milk someone for an insurance claim and get new ones?

Default Dealer states loss of 1qt per 1000 miles is "normal". I say BS...

but my dealer won't fix it until the oil leak is massive enough to leave a puddle under the car. I may try another dealer, but right now I only lose about 1.5-2 qts over 5000 miles.

Default Boy, then I should have lost about 60 quarts by now...

...but yet I've only added half a quart once, and about a quarter quart two other times.

Default might be cam and valve cover gaskets. oil never hits floor as it seeps becuase it burns off on

manifolds. Very common on 2.8 and 2.7t motors in 99 and 2000

Exactly...with their 10k mile service interval people would run out of oil constantly.

Default You guys don't even know half the story...

Only about 1/4th of the story has been posted here. His turbos blew on the way home from the shop in question here NOT months afterwards. Matt was not the last one to touch the engine, it was the tech at the shop. The same tech also stated to the customer that clamp was indeed from his shop. Matt and the shop owner are working things out offline. It does no good for anyone to pull this stuff back online.

Default sorry but the last thing that we saw was Matt posting pics and saying that a clamp killed his turbos

He never mentioned that his turbos died right after he had them installed. Why didn't he mention that before instead of raving about it when he got it done?

Since he posted the original topic, he should explain in detail of what happened.
