Default The oil pan , that thing on the bottom of the engine is covered in dried oil, I cant tell if its fro

from leaking valve cover gaskets, but Ive changed all those since then

is it pretty normal to have that thing all oily?

I think that is the source of this slight burning oil smell I cant get rid of( or does it not get hot enough)?

Brake clean the hell out of it, run it on jackstands for a while and inspect?

Default Mine got covered by a seeping cam sprocket gasket

or is it "seal". I never know the difference...

Could be just about anything with the oil running down there or being carried and deposited by the belt.

Default btw, what is that little threaded hole for down there, its a dead end, but looks like you could scre

screw something into it, maybe a quarter inch deep, the hole is on the pass side, maybe 1/8 in wide?

Default Also check the drive belts for wetness (oil). This would indicate...

...that something else on the engine block is leaking
and you are getting dripping oil down there.

But the lower oil pan gasket is not so uncommon of
a repair. If I recall correctly, when I got the car
I had to replace that gasket and a turbo oil return
line o-ring seal. Seals can go bad just with time.

Also, pray to tha Audi gods that it is not a main
seal...

Next time post your milleage too.
