Default Ok here's my situation, I need advice...

I just sold my perfect 03 Jetta 1.8T, light mods, for about $12k to a kid, which is about blue book if you forget about the mods. The reason is that my parents offered me their 2001.5 Audi S4 6spd (77k miles) for an AMAZING price (No it wasn't free but it's WAY under blue-book). Now, of course if I'm offered my dream car at the right price, I'm gonna take it. Here's my dilemma: The S4 is in pretty darn good shape, my parents bought it brand new in 02. However, the passenger side turbo is definitely making a dentist drill / police siren noise and I'm very scared that it might be going bad. The car does not smoke at ALL but does eat a tiny bit of oil (maybe 1.5 quarts every 3000 miles). But it's always kinda used a bit of oil so I dont think that's an accurate symptom. I'm kind of on a budget and although *technically* I can afford to do a real basic stage 3 minus (i.e. just K04's with the required hardware to get them fitted), I don't particularly want to spend my condo money on turbos if you get my drift. BUT, I love this car! I just don't know what to do, I need some guidance. Did I make a good purchase? Should I pre-emptively buy some K04's God forbid my passenger turbo gives up the goat? Should I just turn it around and sell it even though it's my dream car?? Any input is appreciated.

Default 2nd. Just go easy on the modding if you don't want to dump your life savings into the car

But if you keep it you *need* to plan on spending at least $4k to replace that soon-to-be-dead snail.

Default Plan on having some$$ in reserve for issues that come up. 1.5 qts of oil in 3k miles isn't "a tiny

bit of oil consumption" by the way. Congrats and good luck!

Default Some people have gone thousands of miles with turbo noise

My advise would be to keep it stock and start saving. The turbos might hold out a lot longer then you think.

Default Do the K04's and invest in some IC's....

Consider it a minor investment into the car to make it dependable. While you could drive as is, how comfortable are you going to be taking long distance and not knowing when they are going to fail. If you can prevent the carnarge from a blown turbo wrecking the cats, possibly the IC's and flooding the system with oil you will be ahead of the game.

The reason I say add the IC's (IMHO AWE)now is detonation control. This really helps.

Default Start saving up for the K04s, the inlets, and some ICs(mentioned below).

Let the turbos die on their own and replace them when you have to...it will also look more like a repair than a mod to your parents. :P
