Default ok I hear some turbo noise and need a reality check from you guys

short story is that I picked up my car yesterday after my 24K mile service

they also fixed a coolant leak, from the after-run pump, under my intake manifold

drove home in gridlock traffic (10MPH), oil temp was at least 225F

but during the last 2 miles of 30-60mph street driving, I heard more "spooling noise"

even hot, to my ear

the spool seemed louder than 6 months months ago or when the car was new

high pitched drill, wind-up sounds

start at 1800 and continue to ~3300 RPM..even hot

MY car has a

stock 551A ecu and MTM exhaust

I've spent so much more time driving the WRX lately,

I think it is throwing my perception off, because the spool up on the Scooby

is quickly superceded by the rushing sound of boost in the intake manifold

SOOooo

1)has your spool-up noise, changed with "age"?

2) if you have an aftermarket cat-back
is the spool up noise more audible with the stock ECU?

3) do I need to get some Prozac and just forget about any noises my car makes?

Default Is the oil grade the same as the stuff you had in there before?

Because it can make a diffy, in my 'sperience.

Also... er let's say your 551A may make different sounds than "other, spicier" 551A's.

went from M1 0w30 to 0w40 (supposedly) and my stock ECU sounds like a chipped ECU's spool

Default I hear you. My car is erratic, sometimes it makes noises, sometimes it doesn't

I hear the drill noise most of the time, it isn't real loud but I can definately hear in the cabin.

If I didn't read this forum, I probably wouldn't think twice about it. So I try to gauge everything like this - If I didn't read this forum and didn't know there were turbo problems and design issues with the plumbing, would the sound or rattle bother me ?

Then take appropriate action. I would guess the average AW owner is worried about their BPV, Turbos, TBB, etc. more than any other forum reader of a different make/model.

Default Same with mine, some days lot worse than others.

Oil level seems to have a BIT to do with the loudness of it.

Default At 34,000 miles...

as of recent, it seems that I have been noiticing the turbos spool (sound) more than a year ago, but I don't know if that is because I have become super sensitive to the turbos due to all the recent 'yada yada yada', then again, it might be because in the warmer weather I have my windows open more so the turbo's spooling noise is more pronounced??????? Either way, if there is a distinct difference, that's when I will begin to Uh oh!!

Default true it IS more noticeable than before and I have two different kinds of turbo cars...

I have no DTC's and the noise has been steadily
more noticeable

since the engine was removed, to take care of the heatshield problem

but since I was out of the car for 2 weeks I wrote it off,

as getting re-accustomed to the noises my car makes

yesterday it defintley seemed to have come up a "notch"

so, I'm just trying to get a reality check and not psych myself out
