paging Simpply... brake failure

My brakes went out on me on my way home today. Pedal went soft, brake fluid leaking from ABS pump (bad seal? pump failure? any other ideas?). Luckily I was in stop and and go traffic for a few miles before I got home. Kind of scary.

Whats the shop looking like for tomorrow? I was gonna having AAA pick her up in the AM and deliver to Wicked.

a puddle of brake fluid is in under the hydraulic pump.

most of the brake fluid emptied from the reservoir. I'll call AAA in morning and have her sent up your way.

Would you mind posting what you find out (the root cause)? I had similar

issue happen about 6 months ago when leaving a repair shop - that didn't work on or touch the brakes. I was about 5 blocks away, turned around and one of the mechanics tightened up a few of the lines to the pump, refilled the brake fluid. Definately got my attention. Has been fine since.

it was a bad hyrdraulic brake pump

as for the root cause of the failure.... i have no idea. i think they just sometimes fail over time. nothing specific was done to the car to cause the failure. just old age. FYI mine is a 2000 with 75K miles.

Thanks for the info - I'll keep a close eye on it then...

mine is 2001.5 with 93k miles (having Stage 3- done at the moment, including full transmission rebuild - Tip)

Mine just failed too, similar

mine is 2000 S4 stg 3- with 71K.

Remarkably similar timing actually. Previously had replaced the electronics side of the pump (about 8K ago).
