Default performance chips

i have a few questions when it comes to a chip.

1. do they void the warranty?
2. does anyone know of a reputable manufacturer?
3. should i call audi, or do they frown upon this sort of thing?

thanks.

Default With these questions, you're likely to be ignored...

...as they've been covered a million times before. Do a search of the archives and you'll get your answers.

Default Sympathy for the newbie.

The dealer can elect to void your power train warranty if there is some kind of engine failure and you have a chip in the car. Legally, they are supposed to prove that the malfunction is the direct result of the aftermarket part, but you will have ripped your hair out of your head long before it gets to that stage. Some people (most) replace the whole ECU and keep their stock to switch to when going in for service. This is very dishonest and if the dealer were to find out you are legally responsible. But as long as you are smart it can be done. You can also feel out your dealer and see what their opinion is. Some dealers I am told are friendly to minor modifications where as others will look to void you if you change the air filter.
Some good chips: ABT, GIAC, MTM, APR, etc. Best course of action, find someone who has different chips and take a spin with them. Some pack more punch, some are smoother, it's all a matter of opinion and what you want the car to be.

Default I asked my service rep about synthetic in the transmission and...

since I am hearing things about a special tool, I asked them about changing the fluid for me. He said he was not sure if he could do that cause it might cause a problem with the transmission. He was going to check with the tech and see if that was OK.
