Default Played with an S2000 the other day (more)

Almost forgot to post this. It was at highway speeds on I-10 and on Queen Creek Road (long straight road through farmland, can see for miles).

While I did not beat him, I am sure that I could have. I first spotted a black S2000 a few cars ahead of me on I-10 and I quickly caught up to him. Traffic cleared and we took off from about 40 to about 80, I think he was suprised that I could keep up because of the confused look on his face when he looked back.

We both got off at Queen Creek and fought our way through traffic. He pulled out at about 70 and sped up to over 120, I actually had to let off the throttle slightly to keep from running into him (I am sure he had it gunned, you should have heard that thing screaming).

By this time we were getting close to a populated area so I slowed down and let him go but I am sure that I could have overtaken him. I don't know about off the line but on the highway the S4 seems a noticably faster, I wouldn't have wasted him but I could have pulled ahead.

PS. I pulled my windows down and opened the sunroof to keep it aerodynamically fair as he had his top down, the S4 is suprisingly quiet at that speed.

Off the line is no contest. You would have left him in the dust. S2000 is "the great torqueless wonder"

Default Better yet, keep the rpm fair....

Why don't you choose shift points ~5000rpm =)
With this kinda shift points, I would imagine the 0-60 times to be about this:

S4 -> ~6.5
S2000 -> ~16.0

No contest!

Default Torque on the S2000...

Saw a dyno of the S2000 in R&T. The peak of 156 lb-ft is at 7500. Between 3000 & 5000, it only makes ~130. It builds fairly linearly from 5000 to 7500. Below 3000, there was even less than 130. That thing must be NO fun to drive around every day, but on a big track at 100% I bet it does great.

Default Just to let you guys know, they already have turbo kits for the S2000. Now a turbo S2000 should be

a hell of a ride. I used to have a GSR and the weight of those cars are around 600-800lb less than the S4-hence they don't need that much HP. One thing I miss about my old car is the constant torque curve all the way up to 8000rpm. Imagine a modified S4 with close to 400 ftlbs of torque all the way to the redline )

Default I really wonder what the turbo'd torque curve would look like...

Seems like you'd need a huge turbo to move air at 8000-9000RPMs, but in the S2000, it seems like you'd really want some power down in the 2000-5000 range also without ridiculous lag, but then you'd lose out on the high end power. I wonder which way the kits will go? Maybe one that makes about 300HP (not a huge increase), but also 275 lb.-ft (a huge increase)?

(laughing)
if you opened the windows and sun roof, you weren't playing with each other, er, I hope you haven't drawn too many conclusions from this!
