Default Poll: Those who have lost turbos, was there a torn TBB in the car’s lifetime?

I’m hearing the theory that the torn TBBs are causing turbo failures. I guess it’s plausable but maybe those who have had the experience of a turbo replacement can share with us if they had lost a TBB at any point before the turbos died.

Thanks!

Default 3 sets of blown turbos now - 2 card

car 1 - chip - no blown TBB siren on 2 sets of turbos
car 2 - no chip, no blown TBB - turbo making bad screeching noise - not been to dealer yet...

good power all the time with all turbos.

Default who are you?

perhaps i'm just a little irritable today, but if you're going to post this sort of information, please don't post under random pseudonyms.

also, the "siren" sound on the s4 turbos is normal -- i don't see why you'd think this means they're blown. either you have power when you punch it or you don't.
--

Default Re: who are you?

Why do you say the siren sound on the S4 is normal. My 2.7t had no turbo noise until after my first TBB tear. Now I have a very unpleasant siren sound at low to mid RPM and power settings. My wife keeps looking for police cars, this is not the car I bought. The dealer service people drove the car and said it definately makes more noise than the other ones on the lot but they are not sure if there is a problem. I am willing to admit that the turbo may not be about to fail but the sound is not OK, with me at least.

Interestingly the dealer told me originally that the noise was caused by a torn TBB and that it would go away when they replaced it. They replaced the TBB but the noise is the same and the car did not run any differently. Is it possible to have a torn TBB with no symptoms. I am beginning to wonder if I always have a torn TBB and I don't even know what the car feels like when the TBB is intact. Although, the car does seem way to fast to have no boost at all.
