Poor brakes in rain?
Has anyone solved this problem? Our car has about 13,000 miles on it, but it's new to us. It's a Canadian S4, a 2001, if that matters.
In heavy rain today initially there seemed to be "no brakes" until the pads cleared water off the disks.
Is there an aftermarket pad that works better?
Thanks in advance for your help.

This is not unusual behavior in heavy rain regardless of the pad. You might try a little "left-
foot" pressure on the brake (lightly) to "warm" them/dry them every now and then so that when you really need them, they"ll be there.
The occasional brake-light action might get anyone following you to drop back a bit (more)...your brakes are better than most other cars out there any time/anywhere.

No, I mean NO BRAKES
Thanks for your response.
We had another car like this: Volvo 850 turbo wagon.
When the rotors were dry on either cars the brakes were restored. But initially NO Brakes.
Recent cars with good brakes include Boxster (unfortunately sold), bmw 323i, 540i, Acura CL-S, two Miatas. All but one Miata sold. We put many miles on and change cars frequently.

There is a Front Wheel Flare retrofit kit for A4's wet braking problem...
I had the same problem, along with other A4 owners with my 99.5 2.8QMS so I ended up complaining to my dealer who got in touch with AOA. They put larger brake shields on (similar to what the 2000 models had) and it kind of helped but then 6 months later my dealer calls again and says the have a "better" kit to install.
The Audi Part # is 8D0 698 998A and since I had it installed in May 2001 things seem to be much better but the weather has been kind of dry for CT. I don't know if the kit applies to the S4 but I would ask the dealer to look into it. I know the feeling of NO BRAKES and it ain't cool.
